The fantastic Pena Palace in Sintra, near Lisbon. This colorful castle looks unreal, but is an interesting mix of architectural styles. I highly recommend spending at least a full day in Sintra the next time you visit Lisbon.
The look I give when I have to wake up early on vacation. It was definitely worth it to catch the sun illuminating the torquoise water of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, but I'm clearly missing my sleep.
Did you hear? Iceland is open to vaccinated travelers. I've been to Iceland twice..once in summer and more recently in fall. The weather is notoriously unpredictable, but I was lucky to have several sunny days during my first visit. My last visit was nonstop rain and strong winds.
The W trek in Torres del Paine NP in the Patagonia region of Chile. This was the hike to Paine Grande from Camp Frances after hiking in nonstop rain the previous day. When the clouds lifted, the looming Cerro Paine Grande was finally visible. I really want to do the longer Q trek. Who wants to come?
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. I visited during a brief overnight stay in Abu Dhabi while flying Etihad Airways. I was tired from the 14 hour flight but this magnificent building was worth it.
I don't think I'll be traveling internationally again before Fall 2021, but I can still plan future trips and look at photos from past travels. So here's a latergram from Peterhof Palace and Gardens near Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Nice foggy afternoon walk across the Brooklyn Bridge today.
I watched the Norwegian film "The Wave" a few nights ago and it reminded me of this day trip I took from Bergen a few years ago. The tour is called Norway in a Nutshell and it involves traveling by bus, train, and boat all in one day to visit a variety of iconic Norwegian landscapes. The boat ride through two different fjords was definitely the highlight. The dramatic cliffs were often interrupted by impossibly tall waterfalls and cute bright colored villages, like Undredal in this photo.
Sunsets always feel like the finale, so goodbye 2020. Looking forward to new adventures (any adventures really) in 2021.
